RESOURCES:
In the planning of the journey, we realised that we wouldn't be able to bring everything and that we would have to select specific resources that we found were post important.
The lists looked something like................
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For the journey:
-Water
Water was easy, just stored in large containers to ensure it wouldn't get contaminated with anything through the journey.
-Meat
We dried meats using sources of heat such as smoke from a hardwood fire. This was very effective as smoke adds flavor and helps prevent the growth of bacteria, allowing us to keep the meat for our 4 year journey. Dried meat that was also then frozen meant that it could be stored for years and still be edible.
-Fruits and Vegetables
The advanced knowledge about GMOs allowed us to design fruits and vegetables that took a lot longer to expire, and also our chemistry experts created a chemical named proprly anioxzabidium, which was able to help preserve them for the whole journey.
-Bread
Ingredients for bread were brought on board for the journey, bread was made fresh every week. Ingredients for bread such as salt, flower, yeast, and water generally don't expire quick or at all for some, and even these ingredients were manipulated with GMOs to make them more nutritious and last longer.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For settling on Witsel:
-Fruit/Vegetable Seeds
These were brought to ensure that if the natural vegetation on Witsel wasn't edible, we would have been able to grow our own food. However, when we arrived, we found a varied amount of edible vegetation such as the ralsad plant and the yuplo, so we decided to still plant our seeds from Mertens, but to also begin eating these new foods.
-Lifestock
Pigs, cows, and ducks were all brought along to ensure we could eat meat, drink milk, and other benefits that come with having animals.
-Insects
Insects such as bees were brought because without insects, our lives would be vastly different. Insects pollinate many of our fruits, flowers, and vegetables, meaning that without them these would be hard to grow. They can also create honey, beeswax, silk, and other useful products that insects provide.
-Solar panels
Solar panels were essential for us to survive without fossil fuels on Mertens and they proved to be the same on Witsel. The planet of Witsel has lots of sun exposure and thus this was an effective way to power our homes, machinery, and more.
